My Family of Newts

20120428Pond

This was a photo taken at Pepperwood Preserve near Healdsburg, Ca. Pepperwood hosts an extremely beautiful and expansive landscape filled with wonderful creatures, and I always enjoy visiting it. In this picture members of my family were searching for newts in a small pond coined the "frog pond".

When I look at this photo, the ambience and color of the picture allows me to revisit the emotions and surroundings I was experiencing at the time. This is one of the great things about photography. It isn't even a particularly high quality photo, but it really captures the essence of the moment. I can't really say exactly how the reflection of my family in the water affects the photo, but personally I think it adds to the peaceful and loving aroma of the scene; and I love it.

PLORE: Predicting, Locating, Organizing, Remembering, Evaluating

This captured shot represents Locating and Remembering. It represents locating because not only are we locating newts in this photo, but we are also locating the simple and precious moments in life. It was very fun to point out these creatures floating around in the water while laughing and joking around with the people I love. I am truly blessed to be able to experience and locate these moments. If one is fortunate enough to experience these moments, it's of course important to remember them. This is because things do not last forever, and capturing certain emotions will give you comfort when you need it most. I also think memories contribute to the complexion of who you are in the future, so why not remember all the good times?

The Little Things in Life

20120318Fabric

Have you ever thought about how clothes and other products are made? It's really amazing to me when I look at just this photo and see the detail that is mass-produced by manufacturers. How do they make all these weaves and colors so accurate? There is so much complexity in every-day items, yet we never really think of it. I think it's pretty cool that we can make machines that do all these fancy designs.

I got a neat camera attachment for my phone that has two lenses, one of which allows me to take super close-up pictures. It has really opened up my eyes to the little things in life, and how small yet huge we are at the same time. It's a weird thing to think about; how we are just dots in the grand scheme of the universe, but at the same time we are giants to an ant.

This picture represents Locating and Evaluating. I chose locating because I think it's important to see and understand how much detail there is in life. It's also good to evaluate what we are taking in and reflect on how sweet of an experience it can be.

No Regrets

20120220Sunflower

Life and death. Some of the biggest questions man has today originate from the concept of life and death. I took this picture in Carmel, by the beach. It is interesting to see how they can both coexist together and remain enticing to the eye; it is as if both are a foil for one another - illuminating the beauty in the other.

This photo represents locating, evaluating, and organizing in the acronym PLORE. I chose locating because we must have our eyes open and take in everything that we sense. If we don't evaluate what is important in our lives, nothing of value will be accomplished. Last but not least, one should organize priorities in their life (which I still need to work on!) because we are all going to be the above flower eventually, but hopefully not looking down at the past wishing we had done something differently.

A Tribute to a Friend

20120205Music

I was somewhat reluctant to take this photo, but I'm glad I did. On one hand it seems a bit intrusive and personal, yet at the same time it is extraordinarily moving and peaceful. The concept of the photo above really makes one think about life and how precious it is.

This photo represents Remembering of the acronym PLORE. I chose remembering because we must reminisce and enjoy the times of the past while taking advantage of the time we have left. When one lives every stage of their life to the fullest, there will be no regret, but only bliss in remembrance.

A Web in Plain Sight

20120129Web

I don't know a way to put this without sounding corny, but it needs to be said; life is amazingly beautiful and precious when one slows down and chooses to notice (or PLORE).

This photo was taken right outside my house when my father and I arrived home, greeted by a magnificent work of nature.

In case you need a reminder (or you can't scroll down to my first post), PLORE stands for: Predicting, Locating, Organizing, Remembering, and Evaluating. The photo above stands for locating and evaluating. Locating may seem like an obvious choice, but many of us don't put our fast-paced lives on hold to recognize and value simple treasures. There is so much to locate when our eyes aren't fixed. I chose evaluating because although locating is the first step, we must evaluate, or take into consideration of what we are beholding. Doing a "double-take" sometimes and focusing on the essence of the subject can make a world of difference.

Welcome to the Plorest

Out the Round Window

PLORE: Predicting, Locating, Organizing, Remembering, Evaluating.

Hello and welcome to the Plorest blogger. This is my first post, so I thought I would start off explaining my mission; I am going to share and explain my photos and correlate them with the acronym PLORE. My grandmother taught me this acronym, and ever since I have been able to see the world in a brighter way while making precise and well thought-through decisions.

My first photo above represents locating and remembering. It signifies locating because of the two contrasts in the photo; the dark corner, and the beautiful view. In life, we have the power to locate, or choose whether we want to take an exciting and wonderful path, or a dull and mediocre path. Personally, I choose the first. The photo also represents remembering; because although we put the hard times behind us, it is important to remember how we were shaped and to learn from experience.
